The grinding for the GM/HWL PvP weapons
Since patch 2.0; PvP (Player-vs-player) has become much easier, and everyone is doing it. Why? Because, now, all of us have access to the old Rank 14 weapons. In the old PvP system obtaining rank 14 was a challenge, a challenge that required teamwork and a lot of playing time... some will even say that the grinding to rank 14 was insane. Few people achieved rank 14, and when they did so, they were rewarded with the possibility of buying impressive weapons. Now those days are over.
In order to access any rank 14 weapon you need to acquire a combination of two things: honor and tokens. Both available at any of the existing BGs. That wouldn’t be too different from the old system with the exception that there is no more honor decay. Any honor you gain, it stays with you until you spend it. So, even a lazy PvPer like me has the chance to get his GM weapon. Let’s face it; you don’t even need to win any BG to get the honor and tokens… is that lazy ;-)
Everything seems to work fine until you start comparing the PvP grind with the PvE opportunities. I am in a guild that used to farm the Molten Core. In my first run into MC with Dreadmoon I got the Staff of Dominance; best PvE caster staff for T1 raiding guilds. Obtaining the staff involved many hours of learning and wiping. I was lucky to start raiding by the time the guild has already mastered all the way up to Ragnaros. I would have never been able to obtain that staff without the help of the other 39 raiders and their experience in MC and the game.
Now we have patch 2.0; and the opportunity to go straight to the GM Stave that is hugely better than my current staff.
Don’t get me wrong, I really value the chance to be able to get a mighty weapon as those for anyone; but the whole concept left me wondering… what will happen with the existing raid instances?
