Statistics and WoW
Blizzard has just provide us with some interesting game statistics related to World of Warcraft.
What still amazes me is the worthlessness of such numbers. If we pick one of the categories offered, let's say Crafter's Corners, which is defined as "a list of the most common items created by players or NPCs in World of Warcraft over the past few days.", we found that the #1 crafted item in WoW is....
The Soul Shard, basic reagent of the Warlock class. I wouldn't personally call a Soul Shard a crafted item, but that's just me.
Just to be fair, there is one category that might be of value to WoW players, and that is the Most Auctioned Items. This category will prove useful when deciding whether to AH an item or not.
Besides that single category all the rest reminds me of what Andrew Lang said once: "He uses statistics as a drunken man uses lampposts - for support rather than for illumination."

Interesting! I liked seeing what mobs we're killing and who are the hard fights. But the loot ones will always be full of ore and cloth, so we're not going to see anything too interesting there. But what a cool, idea it is! I wonder how far off or difficult it would be for Blizzard to do something like Thottbot. they could probably make a much better resource, and more accurate.
In terms of most killed mobs you will find the Horde General Drekk of AV toping the ranks, followed closedly by Onyxia (easiest 40 man raid at the moment).
very cool links, and i love the quote. now i need to look up all the crap i have on the AH that isn't selling :)
